Experiences of ecstasy users in nightlife setting in Prague with ecstasy drug checking

Background: Ecstasy is one of the most commonly used substances in the nightlife environment. It is available exclusively on the illegal market, which entails risks such as unknown composition and variable amounts of the active substance. Drug checking programs help reduce these risks. However, standard testing services are not available in the Czech Republic, and drug users are therefore dependent on testing using colorimetric tests. Aims: The main objective of the thesis was to find out the attitudes and experiences of participants at dance events who have experience with the use of ecstasy, with the composition of ecstasy and testing of its composition. Methods: The research was carried out using a questionnaire survey carried out directly in dance clubs with electronic dance music in Prague in March 2023. A total of 149 participants of dance events obtained by random non-probability sampling were surveyed. Results: The risk of high amounts of MDMA in ecstasy was not often a cause for concern, while the presence of more dangerous substances for most was. Colorimetric reagent tests were used by 21% of respondents, and the most common method of obtaining them was through friends. Prevalence and patterns of substance use among clients of Hard and Smart programme in 2016-2019

The bachelor thesis is focused on the phenomenon of substance abuse in the entertainment environment. The aim of the work is to find out the level and patterns of substance abuse among clients of the H&S Program in the years 2016-2019. Its partial goal is to examine the connection of their use with sociodemographic factors, with factors related to the type of event and cultural characteristics of the entertainment environment and the development of these factors over time. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part provides information about the environment of nightlife and entertainment, how music is related to this environment and what musical subcultures can be encountered. Due to the addictological focus of the work, the following is information about the use of psychoactive substances in this environment, the motivation of visitors to use these substances and information about the risks associated with it. The last part introduces the H&S Program, as a major provider of preventive and harm reduction services in the nightlife and entertainment environment in the Czech Republic. In the nightlife settings the prevalence of drug use is higher than in the general population. Worldwide, substance use is becoming normal and acceptable in this context and the individual substances are combined with each other. Although in the world number of services that provide harm reduction in the nightlife environment increases and programmes are supported, in the Czech Republic these specialized services are insufficient, they are not a stable component of the system of addiction care and these services are in the national drug policy in a marginal area. One of the specialized program is PARTYHARMreduction. The aim of this thesis is to identify and analyze the needs of clients of this service and if the interventions are covering these needs and how to improve this program to cover them. The method of data collection was a structured questionnaire with the assistance of program staff. Research sample selection is a combination of total selection and institutional selection. The analysis was made through the statistics program SPSS and combination of three methods in qualitative research. Pragues (night) life in Paul Leppins Hüter der Freude (1918)

(English): The aim of this bachelor thesis is a profound insight into the novel Hüter der Freude (1918) by the Prague German writer Paul Leppin (1878-1945). First, the author and his work are concisely introduced. In the main part I concentrate on social and cultural life in Prague shortly before the turn of the century. Emanating from the novel, I compare the results of a textual analysis with the so far released publications which deal with Prague German literature and life in Prague at the beginning of the 20th century. In the end the reader should primarily have an idea of what social life looked like at the time in which the novel takes place. In addition, I want to find out how Leppinʼs description of Prague corresponds to reality and to what extent it differs. Due to the given scope of the work and the large amount of literature published in this field, it is not possible nor the intent of this work to present a historical study of social life in Prague. It is rather the matter of providing an insight into Leppinʼs ways of describing his surroundings because Prague always was an important topic for the author and played a major role in all his publications as well as in his life.
